The last time we heard from our hero, he was trapped in Wisconsin without a computer and only Resident Evil: 4 to keep him company! Has he escaped from the mires of despair, the swamps of solitude?
Short answer: yes, more or less.
Long answer: There are many magic events in this town; I will likely become mired in the dubious world of card-slinging rough ridin cardboard jockies, all fightin for THE CHANCE OF LIFETIME. BOXES HAT BOXES SHOE BOXES BIG BOXES SMALL BOXES.
This is what awaits mtg pros - screaming prepubescent girls. (In case you were wondering, the picture being held by the girl on the right is actually a magic pro named Ben Rubin. How and why this photograph came to be made the world will never know.)
My classes thus far are somewhat different than I expected.
1. German 401 is actually the same as German 101, which means the class is for undergrads. Oh well, I have to take it sometime.
2. Form and Analysis 1 - A class based entirely on the music of Luciano Berio, a mid-twentieth century composer. Known for an eccentric composition style ranging from tonality to strict serialism (12 tone) to recomposing Schubert's 10th symphony from sketches. Should be fun; many people do not have a strong background in theory which may be bad.
3. Orchestration - turns out to actually be orchestration 2, which means the professor and students all know each other in advance. I'm taking it anyway, because I'm a bad-ass motherfucker. The class is filled with fat white boys who think they are the shit and mock each other for questionable orchestration choices (i.e. "you seriously put that line in the violins? omg what a noob.")
Approximate image of orchestration. Note: boys are fatter.
NEXT TIME ON CHRIS'S EXCITING YET TOTALLY BORING LIFE IN WISC:
Will Chris reign supreme over Friday Night Magic, beginning his meteoric rise in the Madison mtg community?
Will Chris find a job, thus allowing him to pay the rent?
Can our hero survive the verbal onslaught of the fat white boys in orchestration, or will their recriminations be the death of him?
TUNE NEXT WEEK, SAME BAT TIME, SAME BAT CHANNEL!
